What is a “roll test” and how does it help in diagnosing BPPV?

This appears to be a provocative test.

  1. The patient is lying on their back.

  2. We support the patient's head to create a 30-degree angle.

  3. The patient quickly rotates their head 90 degrees to the right and then to the left.

  4. Positive test (+): horizontal nystagmus when turning the head both to the right and to the left.

The doctor can observe to see if the person’s eyes show the jerking pattern of nystagmus.
